Meet The Team
At Thurrock Jets, we believe basketball should be fun, encouraging and inclusive. Our sessions help players improve at their own pace, build confidence and enjoy the game alongside their teammates. Most importantly, we create a positive space where players can have fun, feel supported and look forward to every session.
Jay Taylor
Jay represented Essex and the East of England before moving to the USA at 15 on a basketball scholarship to pursue his dream. He received interest from Division II colleges and began his college journey in the States. Unfortunately, after two knee surgeries and ongoing complications with recovery, his playing career was cut short.
Returning home, Jay founded Thurrock Jets to give back to the community where his journey first began. As Founder, Head Coach and Safeguarding Officer, he is committed to creating a safe, positive and supportive environment where young players can develop their skills, grow in confidence and enjoy the game.

Freddie Heath
Freddie currently plays for the London Lions Youth team and has represented Essex. As an Assistant Coach at Thurrock Jets, he supports sessions alongside his own playing commitments, bringing great energy and a positive presence to the group. Being an active player himself, he understands what young athletes are going through and is someone they can relate to and look up to. He’s passionate about the game and enjoys helping create a fun, supportive environment at the club.
